Where is Santorini?
Santorini is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. Santorini is an island that is part of the Cyclades, a group of islands called because they form a circular shape. The island is about 300 km from Athens (the capital of Greece, an island on the mainland), 150 km south of Mykonos, and 140 km north of Crete.

Santorini is renowned for its beautiful sunsets and long volcanic beaches. This means that Aegean Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. If you know anything about Greek mythology, no doubt you have heard of the lost island of Atlantis. The local legend is that Santorini is lost in Atlantis.

Of all the points I can give you about a trip to Greece, you should not try to visit too many Greek islands in one trip! It's better to focus on a few and do them well than to have too much time to go too fast and relax!
Best Things to Do in Santorini,
Enjoy sunset at Santorini. One of the most magical things in all of Greece is watching the sunset in Oia. Eternal Santorini is well-known for its mesmerizing sunsets. Visit Caldera in Oia for some of the best views of the island, the sea, and the sunset. Keep in mind that the sunset at Santorini can be quite busy, especially during peak season (July and August) when it is difficult to walk even on narrow streets, so let's find an epic snapshot angle.
Undoubtedly, one of the best places to enjoy a golden hour in Santorini is overlooking the blue dome of Oia. Other world-famous townships include the spectacular outdoor terraces of the Centurion Wind Mills and the Red Bicycle Restaurant, where you can enjoy traditional Greek cuisine served with a modern twist.
Be amazed at the architecture of Santorini. Greek architecture, and especially the Cyclades (a group of islands called for their round shape), is unique in its whitewashed houses and cobbled streets. The villages of Santorini are no different, and some of the most interesting structures are found in the form of cave dwellings.
These houses are built in niches in the volcanic rock and always stay at the best temperature. They stay cool in the summer, while the caves are easier to keep warm in the winter months. Elsewhere, on the island, the neoclassical 19th-century mansion houses built by wealthy captains can be found in almost every village and town.
Visit the city of Oia.
Oia (pronounced e-ah) is one of the most beautiful places in Greece. Home to small streets and small boutiques, Oya may be the most famous city of all the Greek islands. Established before the first medieval Venetian rule, the former fishing village has been inhabited for centuries.
Go taste wine in Santorini.
If you are a fan of anything related to wine, consider a visit to Santorini, and especially the Santorini winery. After all, the volcanic island is home to some of the world's oldest vineyards. However, when you first look at the countryside, you will not even realize that you are looking at the grapes. I know I didn't! This is because the oxen are planted close to the ground to form a natural basket that will protect them as the grapes grow. Santorini has grown incredibly fast and so if grapes are planted with poles, most of the crop will be lost.
Sample of Greek cuisine
Traditional Greek cuisine consists of plenty of cold dishes, sea-influenced life and cold meat cuts. And the Cyclades Islands are no different. Santorini is famed for its seafood. Calamari and cuttlefish are fish caught locally.
However, if you are like me and do not eat meat or fish, then the dishes wrapped in oxen, olives, and tomatoes are plentiful.
For those looking for a great dining experience at Santorini, you should visit Red Bicycle Restaurant. This fine dining restaurant offers an outdoor experience and the tasty menu is full of experimental food based on traditional Greek cuisine. For example, the 'cheesecake' course is actually delicious. The base is brisket, the 'cheese' part is feta and the ice cream is a delicious tomato!
Soak up the sun.
Days of sunshine and a little rain, if you are looking for some beautiful weather, you should just visit Santorini! Home to many beaches and sunny places where you can enjoy all the incredible weather, the temperature never drops and snowfall is never heard of. If you are looking for the perfect season to visit Santorini, be sure to visit the island in May, September, or October!
Relax on the volcanic beaches.
As Santorini was formed by volcanic activity tens of thousands of years ago, the island's geographical history can be traced across the island in its many rocks and mineral forms. Like the obscure island of Milos and the beautiful island of Mykonos, where Europe's largest mineral mine is located, Santorini is covered with many unique and unusual rock formations.
Discover Centurion's windmills.
Thanks to the strong winds on Cyclades, many islands have taken advantage of the weather and built windmills to use the wind power to grind flour. Santorini is no exception, and there are plenty of windmills on the Greek island. If you're feeling particularly adventurous during your time on the island, you'll want to stay at the Windmill!
Discover the capital of Fera.
Many visitors to the Greek island do not know this before they leave, but the capital of Santorini is actually Fera. Some of Fera's highlights include the Museum of Prehistoric Thera (which exhibits Bronze Age objects) and the whitewashed Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral.
Learn about Santorini's archeology.
For history buffs, it's worth noting that Santorini is home to an abundance of incredible archeological sites. Some sites that you can go back thousands of years in, and this is an opportunity to go deeper into history and discover how people lived thousands of years ago.
It looks and sounds like such an incredibly beautiful place to spend some time in; truly a wonderful spot to holiday in and soak up all the experiences — and the amazing history. Thanks for sharing!
